I used to see him in the Esquire club, Sheffield in the mid sixties with the Grease band. To see him acknowledged internationally for his gravelly, soulful voice was immense.
Sounds like he wouldn't have had the voice at all without all that hard living and tobacco but that's what got him in the end. I am sure he would have had more years if he had lived a clean simple life, some of them in a nursing home. Are we not glad that he made the sacrifice of living his life on his terms and giving something we will never forget?

CREATIVE "DAYS" - What do JWs believe?

it was pointed out that much of what i wrote depends on the creative "days" being relatively short - something i believe jws teach.. after being prompted to review my conclusions/research, i was more convinced than ever that jws promote relatively short creative days.

The essence of the problem is that Bible chronology adds up to 40?? BC for Adam's creation. I once went through it scripture by scripture from Jesus back to Adam, did all the sums. That can't budge, as far as the Bible is concerned WT has to be welded to that belief, there is no wiggle room.
The idea that the first human was created C 6000 years ago is so at odds with a mountain of irrefutable evidence pointing aching distances into the past that it is an unsustainable position. The solution is that nothing is said. They never print a position that states their real beliefs. They hedge and spin and don't tackle the problem.
The position is impossible, their alternatives include:
a. Re-publish the aprox Bible date of Adam's creation and be even more of a joke.
b. Go down the Adam is an allegory route and try and explain Jesus having seen it as fact.
c. Do nothing and hope it goes away.
I think that this is a single unanswerable question that would convince any reasonably thinking person that WT don’t have a clue as to what the Bible Really Teaches. The whole edifice of chronology is without foundation, fiction. They have no claim to have anything approaching truth.
If there is a flaw in this logic please explain it to me.

Ther is a common theme emerging here. The charity argued that complying with the production order would be likely to breach data protection legislation and the human rights of the people to whom the documents pertained. WT definitely don't want judicial light shining over their records. The term "production" in tthe UK is similar to "discovery" in the US. They just don't want the truth emerging.
The legal system in the UK is ponderous but it is no pushover. Good catch Barbera.

Sorry to raise this inane comment again. Of course money is a factor. It is a factor in almost everything that is done. What makes you get up and go work in a morning? How would you pay for the gas you put in your tank, the food you will eat tonight? Yes, money motivates people, the lack of it causes hardship. Large enough awards commensurate with the public harm done will threaten the existence of an organization that flouts it's reponsibilties. If that makes a small number of victims rich, so be it.
There has never been a better way of determining damages, the harm caused by one person to another, than money. money is the scoring system used by courts to evaluate hurt and loss. How would you do it, use carrots or cabbages?
There we are, rant over.

Tricky, of course there is no pretence of Holy Spirit being involved any more. The CS does the appointment, it is no longer rubber stamped at Bethel, they are not even informed. I think the way to go is to drop little facts like those in and let them fester. Incidentally we had one poor sod appointed as an elder and then removed within 10 days. Not much evidence of spirit there.
You don't have to mention the HS, just the new system fo appointment , let her work it out for herself. She may tell you what you are trying to tell her.
